Are we following Moses’s counsel to the parents?

In Deuteronomy 6:7 Moses counsels parents in Israel on how to train their children with Lord’s commandments: “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

Parents please find time to talk to your children. Let them know that you love them. Moreover, that their heavenly father also loves them and they need to read His word. We need to impress His ways onto them.

Talk about them when you sit at home, when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Almost identical counsel is repeated in Deuteronomy 11:19.

“You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

The setting Moses recommends for this kind of instruction is the simple, daily activities of family life.

Years back my younger son told me that he sees many of his friends who are coming from broken families are turning to their friends for advice as parental guidance.

Always remember Moses’s counsel.
